Connectors and openness

Regular knows guests, conversations, bookings and your house rules. It doesn’t know any vendor’s name. Everything specific to a vendor lives in a connector.

An open protocol

A connector is a small, separate service that speaks a documented protocol (JSON-RPC 2.0 over a WebSocket). Our own connectors use the same protocol as anyone else’s, with no shortcuts.

The protocol has written documentation and a JSON Schema, so a connector can be written in any language. There is a Rust SDK for those who want one.

Built to be trusted

  • Each connector dials in with a token for one restaurant only.
  • It declares what it can do, and Regular never asks it for anything it didn’t declare.
  • Every request that changes something carries an idempotency key, so a retry never books a table twice.

Connectors available now

Email

In: Gmail, IMAP, Postmark, SendGrid, Mailgun, Cloudflare Email Routing or a plain webhook. Out: Gmail, SMTP, Postmark or Resend. Replies stay in the guest’s thread.

Messaging

SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, Apple Messages for Business, Instagram, Messenger and Viber through Sinch; Twilio; the WhatsApp Cloud API; and iMessage through a BlueBubbles relay.

Bookings

OpenTable, read from its confirmation, change and cancellation emails. Notes you add are kept in Regular. Another booking system is one connector away.

Phones

Aria Cloud PBX, or any phone system or carrier that can send call events through a signed relay, such as Twilio Voice, FreeSWITCH or Asterisk. Softphones can look up the same caller card.

Your AI provider

Each restaurant picks its own: OpenRouter, Anthropic, any OpenAI-compatible service such as OpenAI, or a model you run yourself with Ollama, vLLM or LM Studio. You are never tied to one provider. On Cloudflare, provider keys are stored encrypted.

MCP over everything

Regular is a full MCP server. Claude Code, or any MCP client, can read the work list, look up guests and bookings, check availability and draft replies.

The house rules sit underneath MCP. An outside assistant can never decide a booking change or anything meant for a person; those wait for your team.

Runs where you need it

Regular runs on Cloudflare, and the same core runs as a single server on your own hardware. Cloudflare is a choice, not a requirement.
